The company operates throughout Queensland and Western Australia. The services offered are diverse, but all have a connection with marine or shipping activity. They include sand dredging, sand drying & manufacturing, harbour towage, passenger and car ferries and charters.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, have a strong marine industry background, be self-motivated and driven, thrive on exceeding targets, focused on productivity improvements and comfortable in a dynamic family business environment.

The role will work very closely with senior management and for the right candidate will be a stepping stone into a senior role within the organisation

Duties:

Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure safe, reliable daily operation of vessels and associated infrastructure (barge, crew transfer vessels) to perform the services required, through strong facilitation with vessel crews to perform and maintain
  • Work closely with and support the general manager to deliver outcomes expected by the Corporate KPI process
  • Re-inforcement of company Safety Management System at an operational level, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and continuous improvement thereof
  • Front line point of communication with Clients’ Marine operations team, Vessel crews, other port user stakeholders
  • Ensure properly qualified/certified and experienced crew are available for all operational requirements. Maintaining a crew training program that delivers a high standard of service delivery
  • Ensure proactive, open communication between all stakeholders (Clients, vessel crew, port authorities etc.)
  • Responsible to the General Manager for the ongoing management of the operations team and successful delivery of required outcomes
  • Analyse and document processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiency
  • Reporting of all mechanical problems and defects
  • Attend vessel inspections as required
  • Compiling operational statistics as required by the Company and its clients

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years marine industry, towage and port operations desirable
  • High level of negotiation, client relationship building and contract management skills
  • Demonstrates flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues, and implements sound problem solving methodology
  • Good understanding of HSE legislation, management systems and practices. An existing ISM auditor preferred but not essential, however, a desire to attain auditor status desirable.
  • Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)
